The Abylkhan Kasteyev National Museum of Arts of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Almaty presents Threads of Heritage, a major exhibition marking the 80th anniversary of Batima Zaurbekova, one of Kazakhstan’s most influential artists and a pioneer of the national school of tapestry. On view from September 25 to November 8, 2026, the exhibition brings together more than 80 works—including tapestries, paintings, and graphic works—from the museum’s collection and the artist’s family archive. Threads of Heritage is curated by Alina Fedorovich.
Over decades of creative practice, Batima Zaurbekova has produced an extensive body of work that has become part of Kazakhstan’s cultural heritage, reflecting both the historical spirit of the region and the quiet psychological depth of the individual. Her tapestries do not merely decorate space; they construct atmosphere, embody time, and evoke an emotional resonance that feels simultaneously intimate and monumental.
