21 Ways to Celebrate Dia De Los Muertos in Chicago

Chicagoans are commemorating Día de los Muertos — a Mexican holiday that honors deceased relatives and loved ones — across the city over the next month.

The holiday, Day of the Dead in English, is a fiesta that celebrates life and death with ofrendas, or altars, as well as traditional music and dance, Mexican cuisine and more.

It’s traditionally observed Oct. 31-Nov. 2, but there are events starting this week to celebrate, including community ofrendas, a motorcycle run, local markets, a free mezcal-tasting event, a community 5K raising funds for women’s health nonprofits, rooftop parties and more.
