If you are looking for something to do next weekend and you are in the Macon Georgia area the annual Ocmulgee Indigenous Celebration will be held at Ocmulgee Mounds National Historical Park from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14 and Sunday, Sept. 15.
According to Ocmulgee Mounds National Historical Park Superintendent Carla Beasley, the celebration is one park administrators look forward to every year.
“The southeastern Native American tribes have maintained their proud cultural identities, despite being forced from their Georgia homes nearly 200 years ago,” Beasley said. “We are honored to welcome their return to ancestral lands to share their culture with event visitors.”
The event is free to the public. All event parking is located at the Macon-Bibb County Health Plaza located at 171 Emery Highway. A free shuttle will run continuously between the parking area and the event starting at 9:15 am. No parking is available at the park.
